Mayor Jane's Tree Giveaway Returns, Providing 1000 Free Trees to Residents

In a continued effort to support Tampa’s urban tree canopy, the City of Tampa is excited to host the 2nd annual Mayor Jane’s Tree Giveaway, distributing 1,000 free trees to community residents. residents.Tampa residents with a yard can receive up to two free trees during Mayor Jane’s Tree Giveaway, taking place on Saturday, May 6 from 8 - 11 a.m. Residents can choose between six tree species (each is a three-gallon tree) while supplies last.“I am so excited to welcome back this event for another year,” said Mayor Jane Castor. “These trees not only will add to the beauty of our neighborhoods, but also provide vital benefits like cleaner air, cooler temperatures, and resources for our environment. By taking home a tree, you are becoming a steward of our city’s green infrastructure, helping create a greener future for us all.”Those interested can register and secure a pickup time at: eventbrite.com/e/mayor-janes-tree-giveaway-registration-619844971997 ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTSResidents must live within City of Tampa limits to be eligible for up to two free trees per household; and must be prepared to show proof of residency.Residents must also come prepared to safely transport a 5-8 feet tall tree in their vehicles. Staff will be on-site to help load the trees. Residents are asked to arrive prepared with a blanket covering the bed of their car/truck where the tree will be loaded. NATIVE TREE SPECIES1. Red Maple - Mature spread: 25 to 35 feet | Mature height: 60 to 75 feet2. Bald Cypress - Mature spread: 25 to 35 feet | Mature height: 60 to 80 feet3. Buttonwood - Mature spread: 20 to 30 feet | Mature height: 30 to 45 feet4. Red Cedar – Mature spread: 20 to 30 feet | Mature height: 25 to 45 feet5. Sweetbay Magnolia – Mature spread: 15 to 25 feet | Mature height: 40 to 50 feet6.
