• Gross misdemeanor trespass on critical public service facilities, utility or pipeline was filed Aug. 25, 2023 against Dylon M. Schroeder, 20, 64431 CR 21, New Ulm. A hearing was set for 8:30 a.m., Sept. 12, 2023.

According to court documents, New Ulm Police Patrolwoman Christina Wright responded to 7th Street South at 9:25 p.m. July 7, 2023 for suspicious activity regarding a manhole cover that was off and some juveniles/young adults went down it and covered the hole back up.

Officer Wright talked to a witness who was alarmed about the individuals that went down the manhole. The witness said she watched the individuals get out of their vehicle and climb down into the manhole that was covered back up.

Officer Wright saw a 1996 Ford Ranger pickup truck with a license plate covered up by a bright yellow vest. Officer Wright and Sgt. Aaron Widmark took off the manhole cover and saw yellow vests and two pairs of shoes by the hole. Corp. Mathew Rasmussen and Patrolman Cory Lyons went into the manhole and found four males including Schroeder. The males had skateboards and said they were just exploring in the underground pipeline.
