Remnant II

One of the focuses of the recently released RPG-shooter Remnant II is build crafting, with the game’s new Archetypes being at the core of that experience. You begin the game with the option one of 4 Archetypes (5 if you pre-ordered), but you can ultimately unlock 10 or more of them and the ability to switch Archetypes or even rock two of them at once.

In order to switch to a new Archetype of set up a dual-class character you’ll need to unlock them by acquiring a special item called an “Engram.” These Engrams are equippable items crafted by Wallace (the guy up on the crane in the Ward 13 hub) in exchange for 10 Lumenite Crystals, 1000 Scrap, and one special item, each of which is acquired in a different way. Here’s how to get all those Engrams so you can unlock whichever Remnant II Archetype you want…

Note: The Challenger is one of the Archetypes you can choose at the beginning of Remnant II, but if you don’t pick it initially, you can still unlock it later.

You can buy the Old Metal Tool from Reggie in the Ward 13 hub for 1500 Scrap.

You can buy the Rusty Medal from Brabus in the Ward 13 hub for 1500 Scrap.

Note: The Challenger is one of the Archetypes you can choose at the beginning of Remnant II, but if you don’t pick it initially, you can still unlock it later.

You can buy the Medic Pin from Dr. Norah in the Ward 13 hub for 1500 Scrap.

Note: The Challenger is one of the Archetypes you can choose at the beginning of Remnant II, but if you don’t pick it initially, you can still unlock it later.

You can buy the Old Whistle from Mudtooth in the Ward 13 hub for 1500 Scrap. You’ll need to go through Mudtooth’s entire initial dialogue tree in order for him to unlock his shop.

Note: The Challenger is one of the Archetypes you can choose at the beginning of Remnant II, provided you pre-ordered the game. If you didn’t, you’ll need to unlock it via the following method.

After completing Remnant II’s second world, go back to Mudtooth and agree to listen to his stories. Listen to several of these stories (as in, around 10) and he’ll give you the Worn Cylinder.

To get the Mysterious Stone you’ll need to head to the Losomn region in one of the city areas. Look around the area for a sewer grate that’s been partly broken open (due to the procedural nature of Remnant II, I can’t tell you exactly where it will be). Stand close to the sewer grate, and you may randomly be dragged into it by a Manticora. You’ll be dragged away to the monster’s bone-filled nest – kill it there, and you’ll be rewarded with the Mysterious Stone item.

To get the Broken Compass you’ll need to defeat Annihilation, which is the main World Boss in the Root Earth region. Not an easy thing to do, but also pretty much impossible to miss.

To get the Faded Grimoire you need to head to the Yaesha region and find the Bloodmoon Altar (due to the procedural nature of Remnant II, I can’t tell you exactly where it is). Once there, trade in Blood Moon Essence to craft the Faded Grimoire. Blood Mood Essence can be acquired by shooting down the small purple orbs you’ll see floating around some areas within Yaesha.

To get the Alien Device, you’ll need to head to the N'Erud region. Specifically, you need to head to The Eon Vault area, then try to find the Titan’s Reach Waystone (again, due to the procedural nature of Remnant II, I can’t tell you exactly where that will be). Now, search around this area – you should eventually find the Alien Device just sitting on the ground somewhere. Unfortunately, this area is filled with annoying toxic gas, but you can use some Purified Salve to protect yourself a bit (you can buy it from Dr. Norah).

Getting the Wooden Shiv is very long and elaborate, requiring multiple very specific steps. So specific, that we’ve written an entire separate guide devoted to finding it. Click here to open that guide in a new tab.

Wait, what’s the deal here? We know the Archon Archetype exists, references to it have been found in Remnant II’s code and developer Gunfire Games have confirmed it, but nobody’s found out how to unlock it yet. It’s very likely some sort of puzzle in the Labyrinth needs to be solved in order to acquire the Strange Box crafting item, but that’s unconfirmed. If and when the Archon puzzle is solved, we’ll update this guide.

And there you have it – the methods for unlocking all of Remnant II’s Archetypes (or at least, all of them where the method has been discovered).

Remnant II is available now on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5. You can check out Wccftech’s Remnant II guides here. Expect a full review of the game soon.
